Is God calling us to change the definition of marriage?

On June 26, 2013 the SCOTUS decided US v. Windsor (No. 12307) in a 5-4 decision that overturned the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). It held that DOMA violated the equal protection provision of the Fifth Amendment. DOMA had defined marriage as a legal union between one man and one woman for the purpose of all federal laws.

Rachel Held Evans, writing for the CNN Belief Blog, not only celebrates the SCOTUS decision to rule DOMA unconstitutional but also argues that the Church should join the Court in overturning the traditional definition of marriage. Continue reading

I was reading through the first letter to the Thessalonians and got to the end where in typical Pauline fashion he lists a set of instructions for his readers regarding living out the Christian life.This section seems to pick up in verse 12 after Paul concludes his thoughts regarding the coming of the Lord and the day of the Lord. Wednesday with Wesley: Disciplines, the Spirit, and Scripture

John_WesleyI am currently taking a class on Spiritual Formation. Some of the texts used in the class are Willard’s Spirit of the Disciplines (SD) and Foster’s Celebration of the Disciplines (CD).

In CD Foster says that the “great writers of the devotional life” range from “St. Augustine to St. Francis, from John Calvin to John Wesley, from Teresa of Avila to Juliana of Norwich”. Continue reading
